The Redditvision Song Contest Special Edition 5, commonly shortened to SE5, was the fifth special edition and fifty-fifth overall edition of the Redditvision Song Contest. It was hosted by u/getdeezcookies in Vaduz, Liechtenstein after their win with Switzerland in the previous special edition, with the song "IN IN IN" by Zebra Katz.
Format
Theme
As per tradition for Special Editions, the moderation team asked for theme suggestions from the community via a theme ballot posted on the subreddit on the 4th of April: users could submit three themes ideas or more. On the 10th of April, after reviewing the themes ideas proposed, the moderation team posted a poll in which users could vote for which ideas they liked the most. The ideas with the most votes would then proceed to the next round, where the winning theme would be randomly selected.
Of the 53 themes, the five that the community voted for were:
- A random word generator assigns a word to each user, and the song title must include word
- No returning artists
- Wordle: Song names with 5 letters, due to special edition 5
Double Songs: Submit two songs from the same artist, one used in the semi, the other in the final- No usernames
Originally, on the 12th of April, the theme was revealed to be Double Songs, with each user submitting two songs from the same artist, with one being used in the semi, and the other in the final. However, due to backlash in the Discord server, this was eventually vetoed after a second poll asked the users of the contest to pick between the original theme and the most voted theme. At 10pm CEST, the new theme was revealed to be no usernames, which entailed everyone anonymously sending in their songs and users being kept secret until the live show, after receiving 38 votes in the theme poll. In order for the automatic qualifiers to be a part of the theme, they were also included in the semi-final round, where the points they received would be reallocated to regular semi finalists. This caused there to be 10 qualifiers per semi during the qualifier show, as opposed to the regular 8. During the final live show, the users were revealed while being called to post their votes.
Theme and visual design
This edition, to honor the mystery aspect of the theme, the visual identity was largely all about the unknown. The focal point of the logo was a mysterious pink chest, with the contents of it unknown, with a backdrop of a cloudy, purple sky and floating question marks all around. The slogan "A World of Unknown" focuses on this further. In the qualifiers, the question marks transformed into the colors of the various flags of the participating countries.
